5 Things You Should Know About Dachshunds

Dachshunds, Doxies or widely known as Wiener dogs are a fiercely loyal dog breed.  They live to love, bark, snuggle and to be loved.

1.Doxies are notoriously hard to potty train

Fortunately, there is hope.  Within the Doxie breed, them having accidents is a common occurrence.  Now we can always blame the pet owner, but if you ask most Dachshund parents, at some point they all struggle with this. Here are some tips and tricks to potty train your Dachshund.

2.Dachshunds bark often & loudly!

With time, you have to work to train your dog.  They have a short temper that can easily be navigated the more work that you put in.  It’s not very hard to train a Dachshund if you are dedicated and consistent.

3.How to properly hold a Dachshund

Placing one hand under the dog’s chest and rib cage and then placing another hand under their rump or below their rear legs to support both their upper and lower body as you begin to lift both ends of the dog at the same time off the ground.

4.Dachshunds are prone to back injury

Genetically, this breed of dog is prone to a condition called IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).  This is hereditary.  Your Dachshund will either have it or they will not.

5.Look before you sit!

Wiener dogs love to burrow and sleep under blankets.  Check and feel to make sure that your Dachshund is or is not under the blankets and that you don’t accidentally sit on them.
