Yomaira’s attempt at saying hello, as told through her character traits

by Yomaira Poblano
resilient
My mother moved to a foreign country with no support and 3 young kids in tow. When someone like that raises you, it’s hard to consider anything an obstacle.

stubborn
I am physically incapable of wearing clothes that don’t match, even in the privacy of my home when I know no one else will see me. There have been times where I’ve delayed a group from leaving since I couldn’t bear wearing slides instead of the sneakers that’d pair best with my outfit.
sardonic
Every time I get to see a friend laugh through their tears because of a deadpan joke I made it feels like glitter exploding inside of me (a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend reference for fans of underrated series out there).

considerate
To pay attention is to care so I like keeping track of what my friends say they need throughout the year so I can get them birthday and Christmas gifts they’ll actually use.
uncouth
Yomaira finds writing about herself, however casually, vulnerable, and vulnerability difficult, so she’s switched to writing in the third person for now. She considers herself an overgrown child, still in need of the experience and knowledge necessary to fit into the world she’s already a part of. She finds her endless evolution freeing but unsettling as she’s not sure when or if she will truly feel like she belongs. Is it constant growth or a perpetual state of undevelopment?

“It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”
