If I am going to be honest, summer and I are not on good speaking terms at the moment.
There is probably enough material to make a midwest emo album, but that would require having time and money in this neoliberal capitalist hellscape.
If you are still inclined as to know what autumn has been like for me, these five songs should give you a peak at the gaping void.
Deftones- My Own Summer (Shove It)

Subtle might be the most fitting way to describe Chino Moreno’s feelings towards the summer of 96.
As my introduction to Deftones, that opening riff struck a chord with this nu metal kid leading to a further exploration of their sound.
The scorching moans in the verses got many of us heated up to then be assaulted by the screams of a man dying from the sun rays.
Chappell Roan- The Subway

Somber tracks are just able to easily hook me in, and my god does Chappell Roan know how to make them into some memorable ear-warmers especially with the melancholy slow jams.
I might be on her page in four months and move to Saskatchewan if this feeling ain’t gone.
The camp mix with unapologetic authenticity has got myself and so many fans ready to follow her subway.
Paramore- Decode

The Twilight-heads were fiending for this track back at the movie series height, and it still continues to go hard as one Paramore’s big bangers.
The uncertainty within the classic 2000s pop punk palm-muting with Hayley William’s attention-grabbing vocals lead the way to one of their most memorable larger than life choruses.
That hook is able to capture the experience for the horror melodrama.
Motionless in White- Slaughterhouse (ft. Bryan of Knocked House)

It seems a bit unusual for the gothic horror metalcore band, but Motionless In White with the help from Knocked Loose takes on some of the real monsters that can be stranger than fiction with an in-your-face message of anger.
Directed at the capitalist class and the politicians who create a system where they have most of the power and control while the rest of us are forced to bend to their will until the day comes when we have enough.
What can all that money buy for them when they are in hell.
Knocked Loose- Slaughterhouse 2 (feat. Chris Motionless)

It got so bad that there is now a sequel.
The arrogance from the fascist ghouls has driven us into more unpredictable times with the expansion of the police state and sending folks to concentration camps with one mutilation under god.
As was put best by the end, the monsters won’t survive in the Slaughterhouse.
