  • The FIFA World Cup is returning in 2026. The global soccer competition returns every 4 years, with this one in particular meaning a lot to the United States. There are many economic, competition, cultural, and entertainment based incentives for you to get excited. Following are just 5 of the reasons. _______________________________________________________________________________________

    Location

This World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in multiple cities across the afformentioned countries. This will be the first World Cup hosted in the United States since 1994. It is incredibly rare for a country to host it multiple times, the United States will be the 6th country to do so. Given that it has been over 20 years since the last time it came to this nation, this is the best opportunity for American’s to see a game live.

The United States Men’s National Team

While historically the United States has not been at the top of the FIFA men’s rankings, they have drastically improved in recent years. They now have men on the roster that play meaningful minutes in the top 5 leagues and all over Europe. Lead by their captain Tyler Adams and international star Christian Pulisic, the USMNT has a lot of skill all over the field. Other notable players include Gio Reyna, Weston McKennie, and Folarin Balogun. While there is much to be done before the United States can truly compete with the dominant forces of soccer such as Brazil and France, they continue to make strides in the right direction, and give fans a lot of hope for the future.

    The International Stars

The United States is home to some of the world’s biggest superstars, but the World Cup brings some of the most famous athletes at the peak of their powers to one tournament. It is too early to be sure what stars will compete in the World Cup, but some massive names will surely be on the list. Current stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham will in all likelihood be taking center stage in the biggest competition in sports. While their international future’s are pure speculation currently, arguably the two greatest and most famous men on Earth may participate: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi having won the last World Cup and now playing in Miami, Florida may give it one last go and possibly face off with his greatest rival Ronaldo one last time. The world’s best and brightest will be coming to our backyard and that is not something we are able to see very often.

    The Cultural Phenomenon

The World Cup is a global marvel and the biggest event the sporting world will ever see. the 2022 World Cup Final in Qatar was one of the most watched events of all time, with an estimated 1.5 billion people tuning in. It brings an unimaginable amount of cultures together all focused on the same thing. There is no better event for cultural exchange. While the United States had the lowest percentage of viewership for the previous World Cup, now it is in our home country. Our team will be playing against the best of the best, and their fans will flood the streets of the cities they play in. What better way to identify, learn, and enjoy other cultures than to be completely immersed in them?

The Magic of the World Cup

When Americans think about magic sports moments, they may think of an amazing catch in the Super Bowl, a buzzer beater in the NBA Finals, or a home-run in the World Series. The World Cup has the same moments on a far larger scale. Some of the most iconic and notorious moments globally happen during the tournament, such as Robin Van Persie’s spectacular “Flying Dutchman” goal or Diego Maradona’s controversial “Hand of God” goal. America can potentially witness historic games and players in an action packed an nerve racking environment. We can get a sense of why the world call it “the beautiful game”. It never fails to produce breathtaking displays of skill, the joy of victory, and the heartbreak of defeat. The only thing guaranteed in the competition, is  just 1 team will walk away with the trophy.
